Shelfy
Privacy Policy
Last updated: May 2026
We believe privacy policies should be readable. This one is written in plain English — no legal jargon, no hidden surprises.
Who we are
Shelfy is a food expiry tracking app built to help you reduce food waste. We're an independent app, based in the UK. If you have any questions about this policy, email us at get.shelfyy@gmail.com.
What information we collect
We only collect what we need to make Shelfy work for you:
- Account information — your email address and name when you sign up. If you use Google or Apple sign in, we receive only the basic profile information those services share.
- Food data — the items you add to your pantry, including product names, expiry dates, categories and locations. This is stored securely so your data syncs across devices.
- Camera images — when you scan a barcode or expiry date, the image is processed to extract product information. We do not store your photos permanently.
- Usage data — basic information about how you use the app (which features you use, when) to help us improve Shelfy. This data is anonymous and never linked to your identity.
What we don't collect
- We do not collect your location
- We do not access your contacts, calendar or other apps
- We do not sell your data to anyone, ever
- We do not show you ads
- We do not share your personal information with third parties for marketing purposes
How we use your information
- To provide the core Shelfy service — tracking your food, sending reminders, generating recipes
- To send you expiry reminders via email or push notification (only if you've opted in)
- To improve the app based on how people use it
- To respond to your support requests
Where your data is stored
Your data is stored securely using Supabase, a trusted cloud database provider. Data is encrypted in transit and at rest. Our servers are located in the European Union.
Third party services
Shelfy uses a small number of trusted third party services to function:
- Supabase — database and authentication
- Open Food Facts — product information from barcode scans (open source database, no personal data shared)
- Google Sign In / Apple Sign In — optional login methods
- PostHog — anonymous product analytics to help us understand how the app is used and improve it. No personal data is shared. PostHog Privacy Policy
- Lovable — the platform used to build and host the Shelfy web app. Lovable may collect anonymous usage analytics. Lovable Privacy Policy
Each of these services has their own privacy policy. We only share the minimum data necessary for each service to function.
Your rights
You have the right to:
- Access your data — email us and we'll send you everything we hold about you
- Correct your data — you can update your account information at any time in the app
- Delete your data — you can delete your account from within the app. This permanently removes all your data from our systems within 30 days
- Export your data — email us and we'll provide a copy of your data in a readable format
Children's privacy
Shelfy is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it immediately.
Changes to this policy
If we make significant changes to this policy we'll notify you via email or an in-app notice. The "last updated" date at the top of this page always reflects the most recent version.
